Community Action
Ask Your Local Shops to Reduce Plastic
Most of the places we shop are guilty of using single plastic, whether it’s our local takeaway, school canteen or the large supermarket chain. Time for change!
This community challenge is inspired by @plasticfreesophia who at age 14 petitioned the Australian government to ban single use plastic bags, and it worked!
Now it’s your turn. You can ask your school canteen to go plastic free using this guide from Sophia. Write to your local shop or supermarket and them to reduce waste, get rid of unnecessary plastic packaging and use more recycled materials. You can find a template here.
Find out who is the best when it comes to single use plastic on this supermarket report card.
Make a Plastics Pact with your friends that you’ll reduce your use together. When everyone carries a calico bag to go shopping, it will become the new normal.
Sign the petition to call for 20% reduction in plastic production by 2030 or start your own, calling on large corporations, companies and the Government to do more. If we work together we can make a real difference.
